Escandalos Productions is a Tijuana-based film production founded by Aaron Soto in the late 90's. With a relative small crew, the self thought Soto stared shooting ambitious films with a regular digital camera. Sumerged on the surreal cinema of Buñuel, Lynch, Cronenberg, Tsukamoto, Jodorwsky and by the horror filmmakers of the 70's and early 80's. The provocative visions in his $200 sci-fi debut Omega Shell (2001) have won many awards around the world, with notoriety and praise by such figures as Mark Romanek (Johnny Cash's Hurt), Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth), Rodrigo Gudiño (Rue Morgue) and many more.
In 2004 after a couple of horror themes films Soto won the Special Jury Prize at The Morelia International Film Festival with his surreal romantic comedy 33 1/2, a delirious mix of experimental, fantasy and vinyl records, which lead to feature articles in Rue Morgue magazine, Film threat, The Independent film & video and Fox turning Escandalos productions into the first underground sensation from Mexico, after that Soto career in the independent circuit explodes, turning into diferent collaborations with artists such as Cathy Alberich and Nortec's music genius Murcof.

In 2006 two important cultural institutions selected Soto's work for different projects, in the U.S. The Museum of Contemporary Arts in conjunction with the Rockefeller Foundation choose Soto’s films to play across the USA. In Mexico Soto's won The Baja California's Cultural found for career achievement for his project Uptown, a first person view of the young generation of dreamers at the Tijuana border during the new wave scene of the 80's, to premiere this fall.

By summer 2007 Canada's FanTasia Film Festival played a 60 minute retrospective of Escandalos Productions works including Soto's cult classic Omega Shell and Escandalos latest hit on the festival circuit Algesia, directed by Soto's wife Cathy Alberich.

Aaron Soto
is currently working on the pre-production of his new feature film Feroz, a horror film based on a true story. While waiting for the final audio mix of his short film Upown that's should do the festival circuit in 2008.
